What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Question:

Dear Jarrod,

Where in the Bible do we read of the account of the twin boys being born, and the midwife tying a string on to one baby, but the other was born first?

Answer:

Hello,

The answer to your question is found in Genesis 38:27-30. The woman having the twins was Tamar. Remember, she had been impregnated by her father-in-law, Judah. When she tried to deliver her twins, one stuck his arm out first, and the midwife tied a scarlet thread to his hand. However, his brother was actually born before him. The boys' names were Pharez and Zerah. Pharez was mentioned as being in the earthly lineage of Christ (Matt. 1:3; Lk. 3:33).

The account of the birth of Pharez and Zerah is below:

"And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zerah." (Genesis 38:27-30)

Thanks for the question. Hope this helps you in your study. Have a good day.
