What Must I Do To Be Saved?

From March 17, 2004

Comments:    ….. Most of my family sees Easter as okay.  "We use it to glorify God and it doesn't matter that it has origins and similarities to a pagan feast."  I can't seem to get a concise answer on how they justify what I see as a compromise with wickedness.  Can you offer one??

Answer:

Hello _____,

I am sorry to have to disappoint you, but I cannot offer you a concise answer as to why your family wants to compromise with error. I do not believe in the religious celebration of Easter, either.

The Lord told us to remember His death, burial, and resurrection as we partake of the Lord’s Supper and worship Him in spirit and in truth (Matthew 26:26-28; I Corinthians 11:23-29; John 4:24). This is to be done every first day of the week, and not merely once-a-year (Acts 20:7, 2:42).

If we wish to glorify God, then we need to glorify Him in the way that He instructs (John 4:24), and not in a manner that we like (Matthew 15:8-9). Religious Easter celebrations, sunrise services, and the like are the invention of men and not the will of God.

I hope these thoughts will help you. If you live in or near Owensboro, please come and visit with us sometime. We strive to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth in the manner prescribed by Christ and the apostles in the New Testament. We'd love to see you sometime.

Please visit our website again. We update it weekly.

Sincerely,

Jarrod Jacobs
