What Must I Do To Be Saved?

FROM: 11/7/04  Radio Program

Question:

Are the unknown tongues that folks speak today the same as those spoken in the Bible?

Answer:

In a word, “No!” The tongues of which the Bible speaks were in fact, earth-languages. This is made clear in Acts 2:4-11, where we learn that the apostles were baptized with the Holy Spirit and spoke “as the Spirit gave them utterance.” In so doing, the apostles spoke in languages understood by the “devout men” who were there assembled on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.

The “tongues” spoken by men today are not earth-languages at all! (Nor is this claim made by those who say they can “speak in tongues!”) They are gibberish. Another interesting point is that at no time in the New Testament was anyone encouraged to speak in tongues in order to “show” that they are saved. Yet, this is encouraged today by those of the modern “Charismatic” movement.

When we compare and contrast modern practices with what happened in the Bible, we see that they are not anything alike!
