What Must I Do To Be Saved?

FROM: 3/31/02 Radio Program

Question:

Does the Bible mention a certain number of deacons that are supposed to be appointed in each church?

Answer:

The only number I am aware of is that there must be 2 or more deacons in each congregation. I Timothy 3:8-13 mentions "deacons" in a plural sense (v. 8, 12). Also, when Paul wrote to the church at Philippi, he mentioned "deacons" Again, this shows us a plurality of men filling the office. (Philippians 1:1). While the Bible does not mention a specific number, there must be 2 or more to constitute a plurality.
