What Must I Do To Be Saved?

"If ...."

(Note: The following came from an old tract I found a few years ago. I believe the lessons below are still needed today. JJ)

  • If God promised to give faith when we ask for it, why are we told that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God? (Rom. 10:17; John 20:30-31)
  • If one becomes a Christian when he believes why was not King Agrippa a Christian? (Acts 26:27-28)
  • If sprinkling and pouring are scriptural baptism, why did Paul say there is one baptism (Eph. 4:4-6) and that it is a burial in water (Rom. 6:1-6; Col. 2:11-12).
  • If infant baptism is scriptural, why did Christ command to baptize those who believe? (Mk. 16:15-16)? Remember, an infant cannot believe!
  • If the church has nothing to do with our salvation, why does the Lord add the saved to the church? (Acts 2:47)
  • If men have the right to make laws and put them in the church (via creed books and or the Pope), why did Christ say He had all authority? (Matt. 28:18)
  • If creeds and disciplines are necessary, why are we told to follow the perfect law of liberty? (Jas. 1:25)
  • If instrumental music is to be used in connection with the worship to God, why did Paul and the other apostles omit the command to use the instrument in their epistles? (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19; Heb. 2:12, 13:15)
  • If all churches are right, why does the Bible make it so plain that there is only one? (Eph. 1:22-23, 4:4-6; I Cor. 12:13; Col. 1:18-24; Matt. 16:18; Rom. 16:16)
  • If a man cannot fall from grace, why did Peter say that one can be entangled and overcome, and that the latter end is worse than the beginning? (II Pet. 2:20-22, 3:17)
  • If it is all right to raise money for the Church by having suppers, why did the Lord say to have the contribution on the first day of the week? (I Cor. 16:1-2)
  • If it is all right for churches to demand a certain amount from the members (ex: 10%), why does the Bible teach to give as we purpose in our hearts? (II Cor. 9:7)
  • If we can be saved and not be praying people, why did God through Paul tell us to pray without ceasing? (I Thess. 5:7)
  • If there is no punishment for the wicked after death, why did Christ say that they would go into everlasting punishment? (Matt. 25:46)
  • If there is no hell but the grave, what is meant by "the damnation of hell"? (Matt. 23:33)
  • If God promised to save all, why did Paul say he tried to "persuade" men? (II Cor. 5:11)
  • If one is saved at the point of faith alone, why did Agrippa, one who believed Paul's message, say, "Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian"? (Acts 26:27-28)
  • If one can be saved and not be faithful to the Lord, why did the Lord say to be "faithful unto death"? (Rev. 2:10)
  • If it is all right for the church to build up human organizations through which to do its work, why did Paul say the glory should be given to God in the church? (Eph. 3:21)
  • If it is all right to have any kind of human organization through which to do any kind of church work, why did Paul say, "Ye are complete in Him"? (Col. 2:9-10)
